FREE FAMILY ART DAYS - HELP US TO UNLOCK A CHILD'S CREATIVITY
Draíocht is an Arts Centre based in the heart of Blanchardstown and since opening in 2001, has reached right to the heart of the people it serves in Dublin 15 and its environs to provide stimulating and accessible arts programming. We aspire to reaching as wide an audience as possible and our commitment to access for all to the facilities and activities of the Centre forms the backbone of all our endeavours.
Draíocht prides itself on being a family friendly venue. Our staff are welcoming, interactive, very hands on and ready to help when necessary. With such a huge population in the greater Blanchardstown area (over 100,000 and growing), and over 40% of that population aged 15 years and under, we are dedicated to catering for our younger audiences and their families in as many ways as we can. Draíocht boasts a wide and varied programme of activities for families and young people including family drama, panto and musicals, dance & drama classes, summer projects, our annual Children's Festival and our ever popular Free Family Art Days on various Saturdays throughout the year.
Draíocht hosts 8 Free Family Art Days in a year. Each family day attracts upwards of 100 families. Each family day can cost Draíocht between 500 and 800 euro to run, covering the cost of artists, assistant staff members and plenty of arts materials. We've made Space Rockets, Valentines Cards, Masks, Christmas Decorations, Easter Eggs and much more over the years. Families drop in and out between 12 noon and 3pm and take their finished art work home with them. Children are nurtured to explore their creativity and express themselves using a variety of arts practices and exciting art materials, sometimes for the very first time. We believe the arts are vital for children and young people and that they have great art works and ideas inside them just trying to get out. We are committed to finding new ways for these wonderful art works and ideas to be expressed and our Free Family Art Days have proven to be a huge success in delivering on our promise of access for all to the Arts Centre.
